A New Era for Michigan Basketball
Mike Martin has officially joined the University of Michigan's men's basketball staff as an assistant coach, marking a significant addition to the program's coaching roster. His arrival follows a distinguished 14‑year stint at Brown University, where he guided the Bears to become one of the Ivy League's most respected programs.
During his time at Brown, Martin compiled a remarkable résumé that includes being named the Ivy League Coach of the Year in 2018‑19, leading the team to a 20‑win season and a postseason victory, and overseeing four consecutive All‑Ivy League first‑team selections from 2022 through 2025. When he was hired as Brown's head coach in 2012, he became the fourth‑youngest coach in Division I men's basketball history.
Mike Boynton, Michigan's head coach, highlighted Martin's blend of coaching acumen, teaching ability, and recruiting expertise, stating that his experience will be instrumental in shaping the Wolverines' future. Martin's track record of developing talent is underscored by his role in recruiting Zack Rosen, who earned Ivy League Player of the Year honors in 2012 under his guidance.

He also brings an international perspective, having played professionally for Dart Killester in Ireland after graduating from Brown in 2004.
