Former Kansas coach Ted Owens is set to be inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame in 2026, a tribute that reflects a career that helped shape the program’s early dominance.
Owens spent 19 seasons at Kansas from 1964 to 1983, compiling a record of 348 wins and 182 losses, a .657 winning percentage that places him fourth on the school’s all‑time coaching list.
During his tenure he guided the Jayhawks to the Final Four in 1971 and 1974 and secured six Big Eight Conference championships.
The 2026 class also honors coaches and players such as Tubby Smith, Jay Wright, Danny Ainge, Walt Hazzard and Glen Rice, with the induction ceremony scheduled for Kansas City, Missouri.

Beyond the wins and titles, Owens’ influence reaches across the sport, having mentored future stars and contributed to the broader basketball community.
Kansas head coach Bill Self said Owens has been overdue for this honor, noting the lasting impact of his leadership on generations of players.
Now 97 years old, Owens continues to be celebrated for his contributions not only at Kansas but also during his earlier stint at Oral Roberts.
