Mike Martin Joins Michigan Basketball Staff
Mike Boynton Jr., the architect of the Michigan Wolverines’ recent national championship, announced the addition of Mike Martin to his coaching staff, a move that underscores the program’s ambition to blend proven Ivy League expertise with championship pedigree.
Martin, who spent fourteen years at Brown University and earned Ivy League Coach of the Year honors in 2019, arrives after a tenure marked by player development and a culture of sustained improvement. His 171‑202 record reflects a commitment to building competitive teams, a trait that resonated with Boynton as he looks to fortify a roster that already boasts a top‑10 national ranking.
The Wolverines, fresh off a 2025‑26 title that cemented their status among the nation’s elite, are poised to defend their crown with a blend of returning stars and fresh talent. Martin’s reputation for nurturing growth aligns with the program’s emphasis on excellence, a synergy that Boynton highlighted in his public remarks.
Beyond Martin, the staff retains key figures such as Kyle Church and Akeem Miskdeen, while two assistant positions remain open. The team also welcomes back Drew Williamson, who recently departed for an NBA role, and anticipates new additions that could further enrich the coaching mix.
Martin’s gratitude toward Boynton was expressed publicly, citing the opportunity to contribute to a program that prizes a championship culture. His experience at Brown, coupled with prior stints at the University of Pennsylvania and as an assistant under Dusty May with the Dallas Mavericks, equips him with a diverse toolkit for the challenges ahead.
