Amazon Prime Video has just locked in a sweeping 12‑year agreement that gives it exclusive control over a slice of the NHL’s schedule.
A new era for NHL streaming
Under the deal, the streaming platform will broadcast every Wednesday night game during the regular season, along with two first‑round playoff series and a second‑round series, amounting to at least 26 regular‑season contests.
Among those contests are several Montreal Canadiens matchups, with the team slated to appear in seven Wednesday evening games next season, each slated for a 7 p.m. or 7:30 p.m. start, plus three late‑night road games against western opponents.
French‑language coverage remains with TVA
The arrangement leaves a sizable portion of Canadiens coverage in French unassigned, with La Presse reporting that TVA will pick up all 32 French‑language broadcasts that are not part of the Prime Video package.
Financial terms of the Rogers‑Amazon sublicensing deal were not disclosed, but the move marks the latest shift in how NHL content is distributed across North American platforms.
The agreement follows a two‑year stint in which Amazon carried Monday night games in English under a previous Rogers sublicensing arrangement, signaling a growing confidence in the streaming service’s ability to handle premium hockey rights.
