Hall of Fame Class of 2026
The National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame revealed that former Michigan star Glen Rice will be inducted as part of its 2026 class, with the ceremony scheduled for Oct. 22 in Kansas City, Missouri.
A Career Defined by Firsts
Rice’s induction celebrates a career that began with a pivotal role in Michigan’s first national championship, a triumph that also earned him the Most Outstanding Player award at the Final Four.
During the 1989 tournament he set NCAA records with 184 points and 75 made field goals, numbers that still stand as benchmarks for tournament performance.
He remains second all‑time in Michigan scoring with 2,442 points and holds the school record for career field goals, a testament to his scoring prowess.
NBA Triumphs
Rice’s NBA journey included a 15‑year run, a championship with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2000, three All‑Star appearances and the 1997 All‑Star Game MVP honor.
Program Legacy
Mike Boynton Jr., the current Michigan head coach, praised Rice’s contributions, noting that his legacy continues to shape the program’s culture.
Rice’s No. 41 jersey was raised to the rafters at Crisler Center in 2005, a permanent reminder of his impact on the university’s basketball heritage.
The 2026 class also features notable figures such as coaches Jay Wright, Tubby Smith and Ted Owens, as well as players Danny Ainge, Walt Hazzard, Cazzie Russell and John Beilein, highlighting a diverse group of basketball legends.
