2026 Hall of Fame Class Announced
The National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame revealed its 2026 induction class, a six‑person cohort that blends pioneering coaches with standout players who have shaped the sport over decades.
Among the inductees, Glen Rice stands out as the third Michigan player to receive the honor, following in the footsteps of Cazzie Russell and John Beilein, and his selection reflects a career that combined collegiate dominance with a durable NBA legacy.
Rice’s collegiate peak came in 1989 when he led the Wolverines to a national championship, earning Final Four Most Outstanding Player honors after a 31‑point, 11‑rebound performance in overtime against Seton Hall, and he still holds NCAA Tournament records with 184 points and 75 field goals.
His impact extended beyond that season; he finished his Michigan career with 2,442 points, the second‑most in school history, and he led the Big Ten in scoring for two consecutive years, earning two‑time consensus All‑American status.
The ceremony will take place on October 22 at the College Basketball Experience in Kansas City, where Rice will be joined by coaches Jay Wright, Tubby Smith and Ted Owens, as well as players Danny Ainge and Walt Hazzard.
Mike Boynton Jr., the current Michigan head coach, praised Rice’s lasting influence on the program, noting that the university raised his No. 41 jersey to the rafters of Crisler Center in 2005 as a testament to his enduring legacy.
