FAU Adds Veteran International Coach Mike Taylor to Staff

Experienced coach with global pedigree joins Florida Atlantic ahead of 2026‑27 season

Florida Atlantic University announced the addition of Mike Taylor to its basketball coaching staff, slated to begin the 2026‑27 season.

A Global Coaching résumé

Taylor brings more than twenty years of experience from leagues across Europe, Asia and North America, having guided clubs in Germany’s Bundesliga, the Canadian Elite Basketball League and the Polish national team.

His most recent stint was with Science City Jena, where a dramatic two‑point overtime victory in May helped the side avoid relegation from the German top flight.

Prior to that, Taylor led the Winnipeg Sea Bears, Brampton Honey Badgers and Vancouver Bandits in the CEBL, earning Coach of the Year honors in 2023.

He also spent several seasons in the NBA Development League with the Maine Red Claws and the Rio Grande Vipers, and earlier worked as an assistant at Pittsburg State, Indiana University of Pennsylvania and Clarion University of Pennsylvania.

Taylor’s international résumé includes a seven‑year tenure with the Polish national team, highlighted by an eighth‑place finish at the 2019 FIBA World Cup, and coaching assignments in the Czech Republic and England.

Beyond the bench, he has contributed as a television analyst, breaking down events such as Eurobasket 2025 and the FIBA World Cup 2023.

A graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science in health and physical education and a Master of Arts in communications from Clarion University, Taylor combines playing knowledge with media savvy.

FAU’s athletic director expressed confidence that Taylor’s worldwide perspective will elevate the program’s recruiting reach and on‑court strategy as the Owls aim for a deep postseason run.
