A New Chapter for Vigilantes Football
JD Ferris, a longtime assistant with the East Helena Vigilantes, has been named the team’s new head football coach, stepping into a role he previously held as defensive coordinator. His appointment comes after the program posted a 9‑3 overall record and a 4‑1 conference mark in the 2025 season, a performance that has set high expectations for the upcoming campaign.
Ferris will be supported by an experienced staff that includes offensive coordinator Troy Arntson, defensive coordinator Alex Reid, and assistants Drew Boedecker and Kevin Dighans, all of whom helped shape the team’s recent success. The continuity of this group provides a solid foundation as the coach looks to maintain the established culture and build on the squad’s momentum.
Athletic director Shaun Murgel praised Ferris’s blend of teaching and coaching talent, noting that the continuity of the coaching crew provides a solid foundation for the program. Murgel also highlighted the excitement surrounding the new leadership across the athletic department as the fall season approaches.
The school announced new head coaches for other fall sports: Jillian Hayter will lead the volleyball squad, Richard Donofrio takes charge of boys soccer, Matthew Heinze guides the girls soccer team, and Ashley Torgerson oversees the golf program. Their introductions add to the growing anticipation among students, families, and the broader community.
With a blend of seasoned experience and fresh perspectives, East Helena High School is poised for an energetic fall season. The Vigilantes’ faithful are eager to see how the new coaching staff will translate this momentum into another competitive campaign on the field.
