A Promising Beginning
Reagan Underwood stepped into a new role in June 2025, taking on the mantle of assistant coach for Liberty University’s field hockey program. Her transition from a distinguished playing career to the sidelines brought a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the program’s culture.
During her inaugural season, the team compiled a 17‑3 overall record, highlighted by a flawless 7‑0 run in BIG EAST regular‑season play that culminated in a dramatic overtime win against the No. 2 seed UConn to capture the conference championship.
The squad finished the year ranked sixth in the final national poll and seventh in the NCAA Field Hockey RPI, having secured three victories over top‑20 opponents, including a 4‑3 upset at No. 5 Duke.
Player Accolades
Underwood’s influence was evident in the individual accolades collected by her players: Dara Semmartin earned NFHCA All‑America second‑team honors and BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year, while Diane Saint Martin was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year and earned first‑team all‑conference recognition.
The coaching staff also saw four athletes — Semmartin, Lou Combrinck, Josefina Tomasi, and Saint Martin — honored on the NFHCA All‑South Region team, underscoring the depth of talent nurtured under her guidance.
A Legacy in the Making
Underwood’s own playing résumé adds credibility to her coaching; she starred for Liberty from spring 2021 through 2024, collecting All‑America honors, the 2024 NFHCA All‑America second‑team selection, and the NCAA Elite 90 Award in the fall of 2021.
A scholar‑athlete, she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in digital media and journalism and is now pursuing a master’s in professional communication, while also balancing a brief stint on the Liberty track & field team as a distance runner.
Her career statistics place her among the program’s all‑time leaders, ranking eighth in assists with 28 and holding the record for most starts with 97, achievements that reflect both durability and playmaking ability.
Looking ahead, Underwood aims to build on the momentum of a historic first season, targeting further conference dominance and deeper runs in the NCAA tournament, while continuing to develop student‑athletes both on the field and in the classroom.
