Brazil’s Superior Court of Sports Justice has suspended Inter Porto Alegre defender Víctor Gabriel for a period that will last until Cruzeiro forward Gabriel Pec is medically cleared, a penalty that cannot exceed 180 days.
The sanction stems from a July 22 league match in which Gabriel’s challenge resulted in a left tibia fracture for Pec, an injury that has kept the forward out of action for weeks.
Gabriel, who has publicly expressed remorse, apologized to Cruzeiro and the broader football community, acknowledging the seriousness of his actions on the pitch.
The court’s ruling was not unanimous; one adjudicator argued for a more modest six‑match ban, while the majority concluded that the severity of the injury warranted a longer, conditional suspension.
