Tony Skole named general manager of Coastal Carolina Baseball
Coastal Carolina University announced Tuesday that Tony Skole will assume the role of general manager for its baseball program, bringing a quarter‑century of coaching expertise to a department that has steadily risen in national prominence.
Skole’s résumé reads like a chronicle of sustained success across multiple collegiate programs. He spent two seasons at IMG Academy in Florida, guiding the Black squad to a 42‑8 record, and previously served as head coach at The Citadel, East Tennessee State and Lincoln Memorial, each stint marked by measurable program growth.
A playing legacy that shaped a coaching philosophy
A 1991 graduate of The Citadel, Skole lettered in both baseball and football before embarking on a coaching trajectory that would echo his collegiate roots. His contributions helped the Bulldogs capture two Southern Conference titles and advance to the 1990 College World Series, a feat that later earned him induction into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2011.
His early experience as a defensive back, starting 35 consecutive games and captaining the 1990 football team, instilled a competitive edge that he later translated onto the diamond.
Beyond his head‑coaching posts, Skole contributed to the national baseball landscape as an assistant with the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team in 2019, a role that sharpened his eye for talent evaluation on a broader stage.
Now at the helm of Coastal Carolina’s baseball operations, Skole expressed enthusiasm for the opportunity, citing the university’s ambitious trajectory and the chance to blend his extensive network with the program’s existing strengths.
His appointment aligns with a broader trend of experienced administrators steering collegiate programs toward greater visibility and competitive depth, a move that could further cement the university’s reputation in the highly contested South Atlantic region.
