Purdue basketball improved to 3-0 on its Canadian exhibition tour with a 79-48 victory over Calgary on Tuesday night.
The Boilermakers showcased a relentless defensive scheme, recording at least one block and one steal from five different players, a statistic that underscored the team’s depth on that end of the floor.
Early Setback and Response
Despite a sluggish start that saw Calgary rally to cut the lead to a single point, Purdue’s second unit endured a 7-0 run before the starters reasserted control, allowing the team to pull away in the second half.
Offensively, the Boilermakers struggled from beyond the arc, converting only 2 of 10 three-point attempts in the first half and finishing at 25% for the game, but they found rhythm by attacking the paint and drawing fouls.
Key Performers Emerge
Antione West Jr. paced the scoring with 14 points and added four steals, while Gicarri Harris contributed 11 points. Freshman Caden Pierce demonstrated poise with three offensive rebounds in the third quarter, and Jacobsen grabbed six boards in just 11 minutes of first-half action.
The defensive pressure forced Calgary into low-scoring stretches, and the Boilermakers’ ability to switch quickly on perimeter defense kept the opposition off balance throughout the contest.
