Council Expands Pre‑Payment Discounts and Secures Funding for Youth Sports
During its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, the Parkersburg City Council voted on a series of measures aimed at reducing municipal costs for residents while investing in community recreation.
The council approved an ordinance that raises the discount offered to taxpayers who pre‑pay fire and police fees, a move intended to encourage early settlement of essential service charges.
The ordinance also now permits households to receive a second trash cart, accompanied by a larger prepayment discount for solid waste disposal, giving families more flexibility in waste management.
In addition, the council passed a resolution authorizing the city to pursue a $12,192 state grant from the State Auditor’s Office. The funds will be earmarked for the installation of new fencing at the Worthington baseball and softball fields, a project that has long been championed by local youth leagues.
City officials noted that the grant not only improves safety on the playing surfaces but also underscores the council’s commitment to supporting sports programs that foster community engagement and healthy lifestyles.
