T.J. Hughes, an undrafted free agent who earned a contract with the Colorado Avalanche, is slated to take part in the 2026 NHLPA Rookie Showcase in Chicago, a proving ground that brings together the league’s most promising first‑year players.
A Prospect on the Rise
At the University of Michigan, Hughes blossomed into an offensive catalyst, finishing his final season with 57 points and earning First Team AHCA/CCM All‑American honors, Big Ten Player of the Year, and a Hobey Baker Award finalist nod.
His collegiate résumé totals 179 points across 156 games and includes three Frozen Four appearances, underscoring a consistency that caught the Avalanche’s eye.
Before college, he honed his craft with the Brooks Bandits of the Alberta Junior Hockey League, posting 194 points in 138 games and building the work ethic that now defines his professional outlook.
Though he has already logged two regular‑season games and 17 playoff contests with the Colorado Eagles, Hughes views the showcase as a pivotal stepping stone toward translating his offensive instincts to the NHL’s biggest stage.
The Avalanche’s management describes him as a “skilled, driven prospect” whose blend of size, vision and competitiveness could make him a valuable asset as the club looks to deepen its forward ranks.
