Nominations Open for 2026 Friday Flyover
ABC7 Chicago announced that it is now accepting nominations for its 2026 Friday Flyover series, a program that spotlights high schools across the Chicago area during the football season.
The initiative first gained attention when Lindblom Math and Science Academy earned the honor in 2025 as the inaugural CPS school to win, setting a precedent for recognition of academic and athletic excellence.
Submissions will be accepted from July 29 through August 14, giving families, alumni and community members a two‑week window to put forward their favorite programs.
Winners will be celebrated with a trophy presented by Plaques Plus, Inc., a Naperville‑based company that has partnered with the broadcast to honor outstanding teams.
The recognition not only highlights athletic achievement but also underscores the role of education and community spirit in the region’s fall traditions.
Val Warner, longtime co‑anchor of ABC7’s sports desk, will continue to champion the series, bringing her signature enthusiasm to each feature.
In addition to the spotlight on schools, the campaign includes a promotional tie‑in with Dunkin’, whose coffee and donuts will be featured in on‑air segments throughout the nomination period.
