Iowa State has secured a dynamic addition to its men's basketball roster with the arrival of Jaquan Johnson, a 5‑foot‑11 guard whose physical presence belies his stature and whose defensive instincts have already made a mark in the Missouri Valley Conference.
During his sophomore season at Bradley, Johnson posted averages of 16.9 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 2.5 steals per game, earning Missouri Valley Conference defensive player of the year honors and first‑team all‑conference recognition.
Big 12 Ambitions
Coach T.J. Otzelberger highlighted Johnson’s intelligence, ability to read plays and overall impact on both ends of the floor, noting that his blend of size, strength and basketball IQ should translate well to the rigors of Big 12 competition.
Otzelberger emphasized that Johnson’s defensive skill set and competitive spirit will provide depth and versatility as the Cyclones face a higher level of opposition, aiming to climb the conference standings.

Johnson’s shooting development is a focal point; last season he shot 42.3% overall and 38.3% from three‑point range, with a target of reaching the 40% mark this winter, while his 78.4% free‑throw accuracy placed him among the nation’s top 70 players.
