Veteran Alabama high school football coach Rush Propst has put to rest speculation that he will resume coaching duties at Plainview High School for the 2026 season. In a recent statement, Propst said his focus will shift toward mentoring quarterbacks, offering consulting services and launching a new media venture.
A Strategic Pivot Away from the Sideline
The rumors of a comeback were sparked by the recent transfers of Kylen Johnson and Mac Long to Plainview, but Propst clarified that those moves were unrelated to his own plans. He emphasized that his next chapter is about leveraging his extensive experience in a different capacity.
Propst’s career includes more than 300 wins, eight state championships and stints at several programs, including Coosa Christian, where he led the team to a 2A state title in 2025. His journey has also been marked by controversy, resignations from Hoover High and Pell City, and financial challenges that led to his departure from the latter.
Beyond coaching, Propst announced a partnership with Legacy One Performance and the debut of a weekly podcast titled “Win the Room,” where he plans to discuss quarterback development and broader football strategy. While he left the door open for a future return, he stressed that any such move would be on his own terms and contingent on the right opportunity.
