In the summer of 2025, two separate assaults unfolded inside the locker room of Cheltenham Township High School, a public school in the Philadelphia suburbs. The investigation quickly identified four coaches — head coach Terence Tolbert, associate head coach Darian McFadden, assistant coach Benjamin Johnson III, and volunteer coach Ralph Burney — as well as two players, Isaiah Simpson and Josiah Peeler, as responsible for the violence. All six have been charged with endangering the welfare of a child and conspiracy, with the players additionally facing adult prosecution.
Prosecutors argued that the coaches bore criminal responsibility not only for the physical attacks but also for failing to report the incidents and for pressuring the victim to stay silent.
