Zach Kmatz, a 2024 graduate of Sandia High School and a native of Albuquerque, was recognized as the Cape Cod Baseball League’s Pitcher of the Week for the period of July 19‑25.
During that span he made two appearances for the Brewster Whitecaps, delivering two wins while maintaining a 0.00 earned‑run average across seven innings. Opponents managed just a .125 batting average against him, as he fanned eight batters and issued only two walks.
His most impressive outing came on July 25 against Yarmouth‑Dennis, where he tossed four innings, allowed a single unearned run and surrendered just two hits, showcasing the poise of a seasoned collegiate pitcher.
The performance propelled the Whitecaps to their fourth consecutive win of the week, underscoring the team’s depth and the impact of Kmatz’s contributions on the mound.
A member of Oregon State University’s sophomore class, Kmatz has already logged 14 relief appearances for the Beavers this season, blending a strong fastball mix with a disciplined approach that has drawn praise from coaches and teammates alike.
