Chattahoochee Valley Community College announced this week that Marcus Thomas will take the helm of its men’s basketball program, bringing more than two decades of coaching expertise to the role.

Thomas arrives after stints at Lawson State Community College, Marion Military Institute and Gadsden State Community College, where he built a reputation for blending rigorous competition with academic support.
His coaching philosophy centers on accountability, competitive excellence, leadership development, discipline and community engagement, a framework he says is designed to produce well‑rounded student‑athletes.
Academic Foundations
Thomas holds a Bachelor of Science in Sports Medicine from Belhaven University and a Master of Science in Health and Physical Education from Jacksonville State University, credentials that underscore his commitment to the health and development of his players.
College President Annette Funderburk praised the hire, stating that Thomas’s dedication to student success and community involvement aligns perfectly with the institution’s mission.
Athletic Director Ashley Landi added that his extensive experience and leadership qualities make him an ideal fit for steering the Chargers program toward future growth.
