The Irvine City Council voted to approve a five‑year partnership with Innovation Baseball Partners, paving the way for a minor league baseball team to call the Great Park Championship Baseball Stadium home as early as next summer. The agreement grants the franchise advertising rights and mandates a suite of community‑benefit initiatives.
Under the terms of the deal, Innovation Baseball Partners will contribute at least $25,000 each year to community programming, which could include youth baseball clinics, coaching sessions and collaborations with local organizations. In return, the city expects $368,000 in annual revenue, a figure that city officials say will help offset stadium operating costs.
Councilmember William Go expressed enthusiasm about the arrangement, highlighting the dual benefit of bringing professional baseball to Irvine while investing in the next generation of local athletes. "This partnership not only elevates our sports profile but also creates tangible opportunities for our kids," Go said in a statement.
Beyond the financial metrics, the agreement signals a broader push to expand minor league presence across Southern California. If successful, the model could serve as a template for other municipalities seeking to blend entertainment revenue with community development.
