Weber State University announced this week that Pat Zipfel, a veteran NBA advance scout with more than two decades of professional experience, has been named associate head coach on Kaleb Canales' inaugural staff. The move signals a strategic push to blend NBA‑level insight with collegiate development.
Zipfel’s career spans 24 years in the NBA, during which he served as an advance scout for the Philadelphia 76ers for the past three seasons and contributed to coaching staffs at institutions such as The Citadel, Bucks County Community College, and Centenary College. His extensive network includes stints with the Phoenix Suns, Minnesota Timberwolves, Chicago Bulls, Houston Rockets, Portland Trail Blazers and the Los Angeles Clippers.

Beyond his scouting achievements, Zipfel is celebrated for an obsessive work ethic and a reputation for meticulous preparation.
