The University of Alaska Fairbanks' hockey program revealed this week that Sam Elliott has signed a contract to wear the Nanooks jersey for the upcoming 2026‑27 season. The move adds a seasoned forward with a proven track record in the Western Hockey League and the British Columbia Hockey League.
A championship pedigree
Elliott spent the 2025‑26 campaign with the Wenatchee Wild of the WHL, following three seasons with the Surrey Eagles in the BCHL where he captured a league championship in 2023‑24. Over his junior career he has recorded 28 points in 67 WHL games and 28 points in 47 BCHL appearances, showcasing a blend of skill and reliability.
During the 2023‑24 BCHL season Elliott appeared in 46 games and contributed 12 points, then exploded for 16 points in 21 games the following year. His left‑handed shot and 6‑1 stature make him a formidable presence on the ice, capable of contributing both offensively and defensively.
Head coach Erik Largen praised the new recruit, emphasizing Elliott’s character as much as his athletic abilities. "Sam brings a level of maturity and dependability that aligns perfectly with the culture we’re building here," Largen said in the official announcement.
The Nanooks’ management believes Elliott’s experience will help elevate the team’s competitiveness in the coming season. With a blend of youthful energy and veteran savvy, the forward is expected to contribute immediately on the second and third lines, providing depth and stability as the program looks to return to the top tier of collegiate hockey.
