Hunter Dakan, a former Morgantown High School baseball player, has been named Pitcher of the Year in the Old North State Baseball League for the 2026 season, capping a summer that combined durability with dominance on the mound.
A Summer of Mastery
During his eight starts for the Sandhill Bogeys in Pinehurst, North Carolina, Dakan logged 41 innings with a 3‑0 record, 49 strikeouts and a 1.54 ERA, allowing just 25 hits while surrendering seven earned runs.
His consistency shone even when opponents collected four or more hits in half of his appearances, underscoring a poise that belied his age.
A highlight came on July 2, when he delivered seven shutout innings, scattered no hits and struck out ten batters, a performance that left league observers convinced he could dominate at the next level.
The accolade follows his 2024 WVSWA First‑Team All‑State selection, where he posted an 8‑1 record and a 1.62 ERA, and a sophomore season at Garrett College that featured a 5‑2 record and 47 strikeouts across ten starts.
Now committed to Point Park University, Dakan says the summer’s routine of trusting his arsenal and staying present in each pitch has sharpened his focus for the upcoming collegiate season.
He hopes the momentum from this summer will carry him through practice and games as he prepares for the next chapter of his baseball journey.
