Page Brown, once celebrated as one of Boothbay Region’s most decorated athletes, has stepped onto a new stage as the varsity basketball coach for Freeport High School. Her appointment marks a full‑circle moment, returning to the gym where she once chased victory as a player.
During her high school years Brown was a four‑year starter, a 1,000‑point scorer and an all‑state field hockey player who also excelled in basketball. She earned two Mountain Valley Conference Player of the Year honors and was named most valuable player of the 2016 Southern Maine Class C tournament after guiding Boothbay to the state championship game.
A Coach's First Season
In her debut season, Brown led the Freeport girls to a decisive win in the Lobster Jam championship, defeating Westbrook and showcasing the potential she sees in the young roster. The victory was especially sweet as she returned to Porter Memorial Gymnasium, the very court where she once practiced.
Beyond coaching, Brown teaches middle school social studies at Durham Community School, where she instructs seventh and eighth graders in humanities and history. She often reflects on how teaching, a family tradition, shapes students' development just as much as sport does.
Brown’s personal life is also intertwined with basketball. She is engaged to Tyler Stinson, her assistant coach, and both share a commitment to building a supportive program. Their partnership extends from the sidelines to the classroom, where they collaborate on student‑athlete development.
An aspiring marathon runner, Brown aims to complete the London Marathon by 2027. She credits the discipline required in long‑distance running to the resilience she cultivated during the COVID‑affected years of her college career, when she turned to running to stay competitive.
Looking ahead, Brown hopes to continue blending her passions for education and athletics, fostering an environment where her players can grow both on the court and in the community. Her journey from Boothbay to Freeport illustrates a seamless transition from athlete to mentor, driven by a deep love for the game and for teaching.
