The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley women's soccer team opened its 2026 preseason on Wednesday, marking the first on‑field work ahead of the upcoming campaign.
Building Chemistry Early
Head Coach Nataki Stewart said she was pleased with the leadership displayed by the returning seniors and the energy brought by the new faces, noting that chemistry is already taking shape.
The roster features eight players who saw action last season alongside a group of newcomers, giving the squad a blend of experience and fresh talent.
Isabella Burtini Stresses Hard Work
Junior forward Isabella Burtini, who returns for her third year, emphasized that the team is focused on tightening chemistry and putting in the work required to elevate performance.
Stewart added that the Vaqueros will use the next weeks to ramp up conditioning and sharpen technical skills before the first exhibition match.
First Tests on the Schedule
The team’s opening exhibition is slated for August 8 against Mexican powerhouse Tec de Monterrey, followed by a regular‑season debut on August 13 versus Texas Southern.
Coach Stewart expressed confidence that the early matches will provide valuable insight as the squad continues to fine‑tune its approach.
