Peter Bandelj, a highly decorated guard who has built his career across Slovenia, Canada and California, has officially joined the Nevada Wolf Pack for the upcoming season. His arrival adds a new chapter to the program’s recent recruitment trend of Cal Poly alumni.
From Ljubljana to Reno
Born in Ljubljana, Bandelj began playing basketball at age six and quickly rose through the Slovenian youth ranks, competing with the U16, U18 and U20 national teams. His family roots remain firmly planted in Slovenia, where his younger brother also pursued the sport.
After moving to Canada for high school, he caught the attention of Cal Poly coaches during the European Championships, earning a spot on the Mustangs roster. At Cal Poly he averaged 11.7 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game, garnering All‑Big West honorable‑mention honors.
A Versatile Guard Ready for the Challenge
Bandelj describes himself as an all‑around guard capable of shooting, passing, driving and defending. He credits his time at Cal Poly with sharpening both his weaknesses and strengths, and he sees Nevada as the perfect place to test himself against a higher level of competition.
The decision to join the Wolf Pack was influenced by the program’s facilities, coaching staff and the promise of a bigger challenge. He has been studying the history of Nevada basketball, impressed by the atmosphere at Lawlor Events Center and the passionate fan base that has already rallied behind him.
Community Support and Personal Passions
Fans have been supportive since his commitment, and Bandelj looks forward to playing in front of them. Off the court he enjoys chess, FIFA and follows the NBA with admiration for Goran Dragic, a fellow Slovenian who inspired his own aspirations.
When he isn’t on the court, Bandelj indulges in Slovenian films and the Harry Potter series, and his dream vacation remains his home country. He hopes to see the community turn out in force, promising to make the Wolf Pack proud and to leave a lasting impression on the program’s future.
