The University of Alabama at Birmingham’s baseball program is poised for a significant rebound in 2027, boasting a roster of 22 athletes who earned playing time during the 2026 campaign.
A Deep Returning Core
Those returnees accounted for the bulk of the team’s production a year ago, contributing 74% of hits, nearly 80% of runs scored and a similar share of extra‑base hits, stolen bases and innings pitched.
UAB closed the 2026 season with a 32‑26 overall record and a 15‑12 mark in American Athletic Conference play, finishing fourth behind UTSA, East Carolina and Rice.
Standout Outfielders and Infielders
All four outfielders from last year’s squad are back, headlined by John Paul Head, who paced the AAC with 22 home runs and posted a .329 batting average, a 1.167 OPS and 56 RBIs, and Kevin Hall Jr., the team’s stolen‑base leader with 21 swipes.
Infielders Alex Dupuy, Baylor Roberts and Alex Cheeseman also return, bringing additional firepower; Dupuy ranked among the conference’s top ten in homers with 10, while Roberts collected 43 hits and 11 stolen bases.
Pitching Staff Continuity
The pitching staff will field 13 veterans, five of whom missed the 2026 schedule due to injury, and Brendan Conner will anchor the rotation after posting a 4.35 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 60 innings.
All six All‑AAC honorees from 2026 are set to return, underscoring the potential for the Blazers to climb higher in the conference standings.
