Mike Souza, the head coach of the University of New Hampshire men’s hockey program, has been selected to lead the U.S. Collegiate Selects at the 98th Spengler Cup, a prestigious invitational tournament that will be held in Davos, Switzerland, from December 26 to 31.
A Tradition Like No Other
The Spengler Cup, founded over a century ago, is recognized as the world’s oldest invitational hockey competition, drawing elite clubs and national teams to the Alpine resort town each winter.
Souza will be assisted by longtime colleagues Scott Sandelin and Casey Jones, who bring extensive coaching experience from the NCAA ranks to the international stage.
The 2026 squad comprises 25 student‑athletes drawn from NCAA Division I programs, continuing a tradition of showcasing top collegiate talent on a global platform.
A Coach’s Journey
Now in his ninth season at UNH, Souza previously served as an assistant at Brown University and the University of Connecticut, and his playing career included a national championship appearance with UNH in 1999 and professional stints in the AHL, ECHL, and European leagues.
Expressing his pride, Souza noted the honor of representing college hockey on such a historic stage and his excitement to collaborate with respected peers.
As the tournament approaches, the U.S. Collegiate Selects aim to add another chapter to the Spengler Cup’s storied legacy while highlighting the growing strength of NCAA hockey on the world stage.
