Three central Maine boys basketball squads — Erskine Academy, Maranacook Community School, and Mt. Blue High School — competed in the G&E Roofing Summer League, delivering a series of competitive games that highlighted both emerging talent and seasoned leadership.
Erskine Academy emerged victorious, topping Maranacook 72-59 in the final. The win capped a season in which the Erskine Eagles posted a 14-5 record, their strongest showing in over twenty years.
Maranacook's Recent Success and Challenges
Maranacook entered the league as the recent Class C South champions, boasting standout players such as Jack Fontaine, Gage Mattson, and Grady Hreben. Despite the loss in the championship, the team will look to tighten its defense before the regular season begins.
Mt. Blue's Depth and Prospects
Mt. Blue reached the semifinals even while missing their top scorer from the previous season, Oliver Cormier. The squad finished the 2025-26 campaign with a 10-9 record and fielded a roster that contained no seniors, suggesting a deep pool of underclass talent.
The broader Cony League context adds further intrigue: last summer Camden Hills Regional High School captured the league title with a 21-1 record and went on to win the Class A North championship, while Gardiner, the runner-up, secured the Class B crown.

Erskine coach Mitch Donar expressed optimism that a deep Cony League run could serve as a reliable predictor for the upcoming high school season, noting that the competitive environment helps teams refine strategies and build resilience.
