Pete Nochta has been appointed general manager of the University of Kentucky football program, a move that places a familiar Kentucky figure at the helm of the Wildcats’ personnel strategy.
A Kentucky native returns to lead the Wildcats' personnel operation
In this capacity, Nochta will supervise the Wildcats’ personnel operation, guiding player evaluation, recruiting strategy and roster management. He previously served as assistant general manager after joining the staff in January, bringing a decade of experience from Louisville, where he directed recruiting and helped secure commitments from standout talents such as Tutu Atwell and Mekhi Becton.
Head coach Will Stein expressed confidence in Nochta’s ability to lead the personnel operation, while University of Kentucky Athletics Director J Batt highlighted the hire as a continuation of the program’s commitment to building a strong foundation for future success.
Nochta’s ties to the state run deep. He played tight end at Louisville from 2006 to 2010, sharing the locker room with current head coach Will Stein, and later returned to Kentucky as a coach at Purdue and Western Kentucky before his current role. A graduate of Louisville with All‑BIG EAST Academic honors, he also attended Tates Creek High School in Lexington. Off the field, Nochta and his wife Alyssa are parents to a son, CJ, and he has spoken publicly about his remission from Stage 4 Non‑Hodgkin’s lymphoma diagnosed in 2015.

As the Wildcats look to strengthen their roster for upcoming seasons, Nochta’s blend of playing experience, coaching background and personal resilience offers a unique narrative that resonates both on and off the field.
