A Comeback for the Ages
Blue Mountain Area Little League posted a 6-4 victory over East Side Little League on Wednesday, clinching their second consecutive win in the Pennsylvania State Little League Baseball Major Division Championships and securing a spot in the winner’s bracket final on Friday.
The game began with East Side striking first, taking a 1-0 lead in the opening inning as Chase Goodman launched a solo home run to tie the contest before East Side pulled ahead 3-1 in the second frame thanks to a key hit from Joe Minnick.
Blue Mountain’s offense answered with a burst of power in the third inning when Ben Giacone smashed a three-run home run, extending the lead to 6-2 and shifting momentum firmly in his team’s favor.
Friday’s Final Beckons
East Side refused to go quietly, plating two runs in the top of the sixth with solo homers, but solid pitching and a final strikeout by Chase Goodwin sealed the 6-4 win and kept the championship hopes alive. The victory sets up a Friday showdown against either Newton Edgmont Little League or Back Mountain Little League, a game that will determine which squad advances to the state championship on Monday. Inclement weather forced a postponement of the Newton Edgmont versus Back Mountain matchup, leaving the bracket in suspense.
