The Iowa State Cyclones and Iowa Hawkeyes have extended their Cy-Hawk Series football matchup through 2031, confirming a slate of six contests that will be played in Week 2 of each season.
Cy-Hawk series extends through 2031
The Hawkeyes will host the Cyclones at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City on September 9, 2028, and again on September 7, 2030. Corresponding home games for Iowa State will be held at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames on September 8, 2029, and September 6, 2031.
All six meetings are slated for the second week of the respective schedules, underscoring the conference’s effort to cluster rivalry games early in the season.
A rivalry rooted in history
The series dates back to 1894 and has been played intermittently since 1977, with the only break occurring in 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic halted competition. Iowa leads the all-time ledger 47-26, though the Cyclones have taken the last two meetings, the most recent a 16-13 victory in Ames in 2025.
Schedule reshuffles on the horizon
Iowa State’s 2027 home game against Bowling Green has been moved to Ames and is now set for September 18, while the home-and-home series with Tulane has been shifted, with the Cyclones hosting the Green Wave on August 26, 2028 and traveling to New Orleans on August 25, 2029.
These adjustments reflect a broader realignment of non-conference slates across the Midwest, and they set the stage for renewed battles that will keep the Cy-Hawk rivalry front and center through the next decade.
