A Rising Defenseman in Detroit
Chase Reid, a defenseman selected by the Seattle Kraken in the 2026 draft, has quickly become a focal point of the World Junior Summer Showcase, where he is representing Team USA.
The Detroit News highlighted his two‑way dynamism and leadership, noting that his power‑play goal helped the United States defeat Sweden in a recent matchup.
Draft Landscape Shifts
What has raised eyebrows is the unexpected availability of Reid, given that teams drafting ahead of the Kraken passed on him in favor of other prospects, a decision that has sparked controversy and will inevitably follow general manager Chris Drury.
Reid’s performance is especially notable because he returns for a second stint with the national team, having recorded four points in five games at last year’s tournament, and he is among seven players retained from that squad.
Joining him on the roster, fellow Kraken prospects Casey Mutryn and Blake Fiddler also contributed, with Mutryn dishing out two assists in a win over Sweden and Fiddler seeing action in the same squad.
