A Towering Addition to the Orange
Syracuse University announced on Thursday that 19‑year‑old Iker Martinez has verbally committed to the program, pledging to play for the Orange beginning with the 2026 campaign.
Martinez arrives after a standout season in which he averaged 19.8 points, 11.2 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game, a performance that earned him a nomination for the McDonald’s All‑American Game.
His pledge adds to a crowded frontcourt that already features Luke Wilson, Tasman Goodrick and Abdramane Siby, giving the coaching staff a depth of four genuine centers.
The recruitment tour that preceded his decision included visits to Cal State‑Northridge, Sacramento State, Missouri‑Kansas City and High Point, underscoring the national interest in his talents.
Coaches highlighted his versatility, noting that his ability to protect the rim and stretch the floor aligns with the program’s evolving style of play.
The commitment reflects a broader trend of the Orange leveraging elite prospects from the U.S. high school circuit, a strategy that has helped the program remain competitive in the ACC.
