Trenton Junior American Legion Eyes State Title
The Trenton Junior American Legion baseball squad, bolstered by six standout athletes from George Stevens Academy, has turned a strong regular season into a postseason run that culminates in the state championship game on August 1.
Finishing the regular schedule at 14‑3, the team secured a 7‑0 forfeit victory over Capital Area on July 20 and followed it with a 7‑0 win over the Central Maine Hurricanes in Ellsworth on July 22, showcasing both pitching dominance and offensive firepower.
Spencer Young, a junior pitcher and batter, has been the centerpiece of the Acadians’ success. He earned Maine Junior Legion Pitcher of the Week honors for his July 21 outing, marking the third time this summer he has received the weekly accolade.
Young’s statistics underscore his all‑around impact: a .326 batting average with 10 runs batted in, a .909 fielding percentage in 14 games, a 6‑0 record on the mound, a 1.44 earned run average, 57 strikeouts and just 14 walks over 34 innings.
His teammates also contributed significantly. Wyatt Young batted .417 with five RBIs and a .867 fielding percentage in 16 games, while Charlie Sullivan posted a .381 average, a home run and 15 RBIs, and a .976 fielding percentage. Noah Grindal, Max Eckenfelder and Skylar Carter each added solid hitting and defensive numbers, rounding out a deep and balanced lineup.
The championship showdown will take place at 1 p.m. at Bangor’s Mansfield Stadium, where the second‑seeded Acadians will meet their opponent in a bid for the title. The game promises to highlight the talent that has defined the team’s remarkable season.
Beyond individual stats, the squad’s chemistry and disciplined play have been credited to their coaching staff and the supportive community that has followed them throughout the summer.
