A New League Takes Shape
Joseph Duncan, a former Major League Baseball pitcher who earned his reputation with stints at the Atlanta Braves and the New York Mets, is turning his passion for the game into a community project. After hanging up his glove, Duncan sought a way to give back to the city that raised him, and he found a natural outlet in youth baseball.
The West Boulevard Baseball League, founded by Duncan, is tailored for children between the ages of five and twelve. It offers two tracks: a recreational division that emphasizes fun and basic skill development, and a competitive division that challenges youngsters to sharpen their techniques while still prioritizing enjoyment.
Values on and off the Diamond
Beyond teaching the mechanics of hitting, pitching and fielding, the league weaves lessons about teamwork, discipline and sportsmanship into every practice and game. Duncan believes that the structured environment of a team can instill lifelong habits that extend far beyond the baseball diamond.
The inaugural season is slated to begin in the spring of 2023, giving families in the Charlotte area a timely opportunity to enroll their children.
