Binghamton University announced today that Jocelin Wright will join the women's basketball coaching staff as an assistant coach, bringing a blend of playing experience and leadership to the program.
A Coaching Journey Rooted in the Region
Wright’s coaching trajectory began at Tompkins Cortland Community College, where she first served as an assistant from 2021 to 2023 before ascending to head coach from 2023 to 2025. In that role she guided the team to its most successful seasons in program history, mentoring award‑winning athletes and earning Coach of the Year honors in 2023‑24.
Her playing days as a Division II standout at Ithaca, New York, saw her excel in both women's basketball and lacrosse, collecting CACC All‑Academic recognition three times and being named Defensive Player of the Week on three occasions.
Leadership Praise from Head Coach Mary Grimes
Head coach Mary Grimes highlighted Wright’s energy and relationship‑building abilities, stating that her appointment aligns with the program’s vision of competitive growth and community engagement.
Wright, a graduate of Alliance University with degrees in Organizational Leadership and Sport Management, returns to the Binghamton area after stints at Colgate University and Tompkins Cortland, where she amassed a strong network of mentors and athletes.
The addition of Wright is expected to bolster recruiting efforts and on‑court development, positioning the Bearcats for a resurgence in the upcoming season.
