Preseason Camp Kicks Off in Montgomery
The Alabama State University football program opened its preseason camp on July 30, stepping onto the practice field under a blistering 90‑degree sun. Players donned shorts, practice jerseys and helmets as they ran drills in what quickly became a test of endurance.
Quarterback Andrew Body took every first‑team snap despite a brace encasing his throwing arm, a visual reminder of the injury he is nursing. Coach Eddie Robinson Jr. was quick to flag a delay of game penalty on Body, reminding the signal‑caller that discipline will be as important as talent this fall.
The coaching staff highlighted the depth at wide receiver and cornerback, positions that appear stronger than a year ago. New recruit Franck Pierre caught a steady stream of passes, drawing early praise for his route running and hands.
Among the specialists, Prattville native Paxton Genola emerged as a front‑runner in the punter competition, consistently delivering tighter kicks that could give the team better field position early in the season.
With a roster that includes names such as Te'Sean Smoot, Kareem Keye, Israel Tate and a host of other returning players, the team is shaping up to be a competitive unit. The camp marks the first step toward a schedule that will test the team’s depth and resilience.
