Don Granato, a veteran of the National Hockey League, has accepted an assistant coaching position with the Columbus Blue Jackets, the club announced this week.
Granato’s coaching résumé includes a three‑and‑a‑half tenure as head coach of the Buffalo Sabres, where he compiled a 122‑125‑27 record and helped stabilize a team that had been mired in a prolonged losing streak.
His early coaching years were spent with the Columbus Chill of the ECHL, a stint that forged a personal connection to the city and its hockey community.
A new chapter for the Blue Jackets
Before joining Columbus, Granato also served as an assistant coach with the St. Louis Blues and the Chicago Blackhawks, experiences that broadened his tactical perspective and player development expertise.
The appointment coincides with the recent hiring of former Sabres head coach Phil Housley as an assistant with the Los Angeles Kings, highlighting a web of familiar faces moving through the NHL coaching carousel.
