Remembering a Coach Who Shaped a Generation
Anthony Lake, a 54‑year‑old educator and football coach at Hendersonville High School, died recently, leaving a community in mourning. Known for his dedication on the sidelines and in the classroom, Lake spent more than two decades guiding the Commandos.
During his tenure he led the team to its first TSSAA playoff appearance in 1988, a milestone that still resonates among alumni. Before turning to coaching, Lake had starred as a quarterback for the Commandos as a student, and later played baseball at Birmingham Southern College.
He is survived by his wife, Heather, and their two children, Chase and Ashelyn. A visitation and celebration of life will be held in the school gym on Sunday, August 2, providing an opportunity for friends, former players and colleagues to pay their respects.
The outpouring of tributes underscores the lasting impact of Lake’s leadership, which extended beyond wins and losses to mentorship and community involvement. His legacy will continue to influence future coaches and students at Hendersonville High.
