A Veteran’s Ascension
Chris Hart steps into the role of head coach after a 22‑year climb through the N.C. State baseball program, most recently serving as associate head coach for 11 seasons. His promotion follows the retirement of longtime mentor Elliott Avent, marking the end of an era and the beginning of a new leadership chapter for the Wolfpack.
Hart has decided to keep the bulk of the existing coaching staff intact, a move he says will preserve continuity while he evaluates the talent pool. Among the new additions is Taylor Black, a pitching specialist who previously contributed at both Florida and N.C. State, bringing fresh ideas to the staff.
Strategic Recruiting and Roster Construction
Understanding that the 2026 season was marred by key injuries, Hart has centered his early planning on bolstering the pitching rotation. By targeting high‑upside arms in the recruiting cycle, he hopes to mitigate the impact of those setbacks and create a more resilient staff.
The coaching staff will lean on experienced players such as Jacob Dudan and Ryan Marohn, who bring valuable collegiate experience to the mound and outfield.
The roster was finalized just over a week ago, and the team will soon reconvene on campus for fall preparations. Over the next month the Wolfpack will play four exhibition games, including matchups against Appalachian State, North Carolina, Duke and Liberty, all scheduled to be held in the Raleigh area.
Hart’s vision emphasizes balance — mixing seasoned veterans with promising newcomers — to compete not only for the ACC title but also for national recognition. He plans to remain deeply involved in the recruiting process, ensuring that each incoming player aligns with the program’s long‑term goals.
