As August draws near, the Missouri Tigers are stepping onto the practice field for the first official fall camp of the 2026 season, a period that will shape the trajectory of the program under head coach Eli Drinkwitz.
New Faces in the Offensive Scheme
For the third consecutive year the offense will be led by a new playcaller and a new starting quarterback, Austin Simmons, who now faces the challenge of integrating a revamped receiving corps. The unit lost three of its top four pass catchers, leaving only one returning receiver with more than 100 yards from the previous season.
Adding to the uncertainty, right‑tackle stability remains in question after Josh Atkins missed the majority of spring workouts due to a lingering injury. The competition for that spot is expected to be one of the most watched battles during camp.
Key Player Returns and Emerging Threats
Ahmad Hardy, the team’s most impactful offensive weapon from 2025, is slated to return within five to eight weeks after recovering from a bullet‑related injury, providing a much‑needed spark to the attack. Freshman standout Donovan Olugbode, who posted over 100 yards as a true freshman, is being counted on to take a larger role as the X receiver.
On the defensive side, the Death Row unit is undergoing a major rebuild, replacing multiple starters across all three levels. Edge rushers Langden Kitchen and Darris Smith are emerging as the primary pass‑rush threats, aiming to fill the void left by the departure of 111 combined pressures from the previous season.
Defensive Rebuilding and Schedule Challenges
The revamped defense will have to adjust quickly, as the schedule brings matchups against traditional SEC powerhouses such as Ole Miss, Auburn and Arkansas. The passing offense, which ranked among the worst in the conference last year, must show marked improvement to compete in those high‑stakes games.
With the fall camp underway, the Tigers are focused on turning these positional battles into tangible on‑field results, hoping to build on a 29‑10 record over the past three seasons despite a roster in flux.
