Rising Stars of Palm Beach County
Colby Smith, a senior shortstop at Jupiter High School, and Alec Cabrera, a sophomore at The King's Academy, have been named CBS12 News Athletes of the Week after delivering standout performances that captured the attention of the local sports community.
Smith’s journey back from a hand injury was nothing short of remarkable; he finished the season with a .341 batting average, four home runs and 32 RBIs across nearly 30 games, helping the Tigers mount a serious title run after falling just one run short of the state championship the previous year.
Cabrera, only 16, dominated the league with a batting average above .500, launching multiple home runs and driving in a team‑high number of runs, a performance that propelled The King's Academy to the district championship game and underscored his reputation for relentless work ethic and leadership.
Both athletes previously earned the weekly honor, but this latest recognition reflects a season in which their contributions went beyond personal statistics, shaping team dynamics and inspiring younger players across the region.
Looking Ahead
With Cabrera set to return for his junior year, The King's Academy hopes to build on its recent success, while Smith’s recovery signals a promising future for Jupiter High as they aim to translate near‑misses into championship glory.
The achievements of these two players also highlight the vibrant high school sports ecosystem in Palm Beach County, a community where athletic excellence is supported by schools, families and local businesses such as Baker & DiSalvo Personal Injury Law, a sponsor that has long championed youth sports.
