Roch Cholowsky Tops the Draft
Baseball America’s April edition of its 2026 MLB Draft rankings now covers the top 400 prospects, a list assembled with the input of scouts, executives and analysts across the sport. The update reflects the most recent industry feedback and offers a snapshot of which players are rising as the draft approaches.
College Powerhouses Lead the Pack
At the summit of the list, UCLA shortstop Roch Cholowsky holds the No. 1 spot, underscoring the confidence scouts have in his blend of bat speed and defensive versatility. The rankings also highlight institutional strength, with Arkansas topping the collegiate tally at nine players represented, while LSU leads the SEC with 15 committed prospects.
Other powerhouse programs are well‑represented as well; Florida State and UCLA each have eight players in the top 400, and NC State, North Carolina, Oklahoma and Tennessee each contribute seven. The high school landscape is dominated by Orange Lutheran High in California, which boasts four ranked players, and Texas shortstop Grady Emerson appears among the most coveted prospects.
Scouting Insights Shape the List
The breadth of representation extends beyond the traditional hotbeds, with schools such as Georgia Tech, UC Santa Barbara, Vanderbilt, Stanford, Mississippi State and others also earning spots. The diversity of talent underscores the depth of the 2026 class and the growing global reach of the draft, a fact noted by analysts like Ben Badler, J.J.
