Manhattan University’s men’s basketball program received a boost this week as head coach John Gallagher confirmed the addition of junior guard Dasean Lewis to the roster. Lewis, a 5‑11 guard from Kansas, joins after two successful seasons at Garden City Community College, where he honed his shooting, playmaking and defensive skills.
A versatile threat in the backcourt
During the 2025‑26 campaign Lewis started 29 of 31 games, averaging 13.1 points per game while shooting 42.8% from the field and 39.8% from three‑point range. His free‑throw accuracy climbed to 80.7%, up from 70.4% as a freshman, and he capped the season with a 33‑point performance against Dodge City Community College, going 9‑for‑11 from the field and 7‑of‑8 from beyond the arc.
Lewis’s high school pedigree is equally impressive. At Hugoton High School he helped his team to a State Championship, earned Class 4A All‑State First Team honors in 2024, and was named Kansas Defensive Player of the Year for the 4A‑6A classification. He also served as a member of the National Honor Society.
Academically, Lewis will pursue a bachelor’s degree in finance at Manhattan University’s Riverdale, New York campus. The university, located in the United States, offers him a chance to blend his athletic ambitions with a solid educational foundation.
Coach Gallagher expressed confidence that Lewis’s shooting touch, defensive instincts and academic drive will help the Jaspers compete more aggressively in the upcoming season. The coaching staff believes the new guard will add depth and a spark to the team’s backcourt.
