A New Chapter for Tuskegee Soccer
Tuskegee University is set to field men’s and women’s soccer teams for its first NCAA Division II season this fall, marking a historic expansion of the school’s athletic offerings.
The effort is anchored by a docuseries titled "Unveiling History," which will follow both squads through their debut campaign, capturing student‑athlete life and the broader HBCU experience. Filming is slated to begin shortly, with the first matches scheduled for mid‑August at Abbott Stadium.
University President Dr. Mark Brown and Athletic Director Reginald Ruffin accelerated the program’s timeline, moving the launch from the originally planned 2027‑28 academic year to the upcoming 2026 season after Ruffin presented the idea to Brown. Their collaboration was sparked by a chance encounter between Ruffin and executive producer Brian Egeston, whose work on Tyler Perry’s productions opened the door to the series.
Egeston, a writer for Tyler Perry’s shows, will executive‑produce the documentary in partnership with Horne Brothers Films, bringing a distinctive narrative voice to the project. The series will extend beyond soccer, weaving in footage from other campus sports and everyday student life throughout the fall semester, aiming to spotlight the entire athletic department.
The inaugural games are set for August 17 for the men’s team and August 21 for the women’s team, both at Abbott Stadium. While the broadcast platform and exact release date remain pending, the university plans to announce those details in the coming weeks.
