The Greenville Swamp Rabbits announced this week that veteran defenseman Peter Tischke has inked a contract for the 2026‑27 season, reinforcing the blue line with a player who has spent more than eight years navigating the professional ranks.
Tischke’s journey to Greenville traces back to his recent stint with the Jacksonville Icemen, a South Division rival whom he faced for three consecutive seasons. In 53 games for Jacksonville, he contributed 15 points, including three goals and twelve assists, and added a single assist in four AHL appearances with the Rochester Americans.
Beyond his recent ECHL performance, the defenseman boasts a solid résumé that includes 82 AHL games with the Rochester Americans and Colorado Eagles, where he accumulated 12 points. Across the ECHL, he has skated in 202 contests for four different franchises, tallying 53 points.
A College Legacy of Excellence
Before turning professional, Tischke completed four seasons at the University of Wisconsin, where he earned Big Ten Honorable Mention honors in 2017 and 2018. His collegiate career also featured a standout achievement in 2019 when he received the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award, underscoring his reputation as a respected leader on and off the ice.
The move signals the Swamp Rabbits’ intent to blend youthful energy with veteran savvy. By integrating a player who has experienced both the intensity of AHL competition and the grit of ECHL play, the club hopes to bolster its defensive stability and add depth to its power‑play units.
Fans can look forward to seeing Tischke wear the familiar green and white, a visual cue that may evoke memories of past battles on the ice. His familiarity with the South Division’s competitive landscape could also provide a strategic edge when facing longtime rivals.
