Adam Anwar, a 6‑foot‑5 guard from McHenry, Illinois, capped a four‑year varsity career with 1,488 points, placing him second on the school’s all‑time scoring list.
A Calculated Leap
After receiving a recruitment offer from the University of Vermont, Anwar elected to spend a post‑graduate year at Kimball Union Academy in Meriden, New Hampshire, a move he says will give him the time to mature both on the court and in the classroom.
During his senior season he averaged 19.5 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists, while also blocking 33 shots and sinking 61 three‑pointers, earning first‑team All‑Area honors and helping the Warriors secure a 72‑game winning streak over three years.
His achievements also brought him Northwest Herald All‑Area first‑team recognition, a special‑mention nod from the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association, and a shared Fox Valley Conference title two seasons ago.
Off the court, Anwar’s father, Walead Anwar, works in IT consulting, and the family’s emphasis on education has guided the athlete toward a pre‑med track, with a planned economics minor.
Despite suggestions to transfer, Anwar stayed rooted in McHenry, citing the community, his teammates and the familiar environment as factors he didn’t want to relinquish.
He plans to begin classes at Kimball Union on August 30 and will use the year to sharpen his game before making a final college decision, all while pursuing a pre‑med degree.
