A Transfer Marked by Excellence
After two seasons at Boston University, transfer center Ben Defty is preparing to make his mark with the Arizona State Sun Devils. The move follows a sophomore campaign that placed him among the nation’s most efficient scorers, highlighted by a program‑record field‑goal percentage that reached 69.4 percent.
Defty concluded his collegiate career with a string of impressive performances, including a 26‑point outing against Lehigh in January 2026 that featured 10 rebounds, three assists and two blocks. He contributed to a 49.5 percent team shooting mark, the highest in school history, and helped the Terriers capture their first Patriot League title game appearance since 2020.
His impact extended beyond the college hardwood. Representing Germany at the 2025 FIBA U20 Eurobasket, Defty averaged 8.1 points and 6.6 rebounds, shooting 52.6 percent from the field and 81 percent from the free‑throw line as the nation finished fifth with a 5‑2 record. The experience added an international dimension to a résumé that also includes Patriot League All‑Defensive and All‑Tournament honors.
Coach Randy Bennett, who has guided Defty at Boston University, praised the player’s untapped potential, noting that he is only beginning to realize what he can accomplish. “Ben brings a rare blend of size, shooting efficiency and defensive presence,” Bennett said, expressing confidence that the Sun Devils will benefit from his development.
The addition of Defty underscores Arizona State’s aggressive approach to bolstering its roster through the transfer portal. By integrating a player who has excelled at both the domestic and international levels, the program aims to strengthen its competitiveness in the Pac‑12 and beyond, signaling a new chapter for the Sun Devils’ ambitions.
